Technical officers from the Ministry of Agriculture are currently attending a three-day workshop in Belize City from the 9th to 11th of November 2022, on “Generating Climate Change and Disaster Indicators for Policy Decision-making in Belize”. The event is being hosted by the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change & Disaster Risk Management (MSDCCDRM) and the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) in partnership with the Statistics Division and the Subregional Headquarters for the Caribbean of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
The goals and scope of the workshop are to:
1) Train the participants to build selected environment, climate change and disaster indicators and its metadata.
2) Identify data and capacity gaps to develop an Environmental Information System (EIS) and build a regional resilience platform.
3) Have a better understanding of how geospatial data can enhance the use of environment, climate change and disaster indicators for effective decision making.
Other participants include technical staff of national statistical offices, relevant line ministries and other institutions that produce or use environment, climate change, and disasters statistics.
